A Video Game For Women!

EA Sports has turned its attention to a left out demographic: Women! The big sports game maker is well known for its male dominated sports, such as football, soccer, and golf. But now EA Sports is directing its attention to women for the 1st time. They'll be producing a series of training and fitness games for the Nintendo Wii. The first game that will be made available is called, EA Sports Active. This game will be targeted toward adult women who would like to work their upper and lower body by means of exercises and cardio training.

This game will feature a virtual trainer, and I'm sure the trainer will be a hot looking guy, that is, if EA is smart! This trainer will work with you and guide you through a series of twenty minute challenges. Each one of the workouts can be fully customized to you. The problem with the Wii system right now is, you have to hold the controllers in your hands. But the new game will offer leg straps where you will be able to put the controllers, allowing you to workout without having to hold the controllers. The game will also come with resistance bands and other peripherals could be included in future games.

Peter Moore, president of the EA Sports Label said, "Obiously we're talking to a consumer we've never talked to before. We recognize that EA sports to this consumer has meant games for their husband or son," Moore said. "But the Wii console has provided us a chance to engage moms or big sisters and allowed us a chance to build up gaming as an expression for more than just boys." Mr. Moore is qualified to help create these games. He was involved in creating fitness videos when he worked at Reebox. In addition, he at one time was a gym teacher. He is focused on making exercise accesible, fun and convenient while in reality producing good results. "The greatest exercise is the one you don't realize is exercize," Moore said. "That's what trying to do here."

The game will be available spring of 2009.

So ladies, here is an opportunity to be able to steal away the Wii console from your husband and kids for yourselves. My wife loves our Wii and we regularly play a round of golf together using our Tiger Woods PGA Tour game. But in reality, this new game should be for everyone. Today, more and more people are out of shape. Just look around you, or in my case, at me, and you will see that people need to involve fitness in their lives. I love to play golf, but I ride in a cart, so it doesn't do me any good when it comes to getting healthy. I am not a big video gamer but I think I will like this new game and my wife is looking forward to it too.

Ping Rapture V2 Review

From what I've been reading if you like the sound and the feel of the original Rapture, or if you love the hot face of the Ping G10, you'll love this new driver even better!

The Rapture V2, the newest driver from Ping, is pure Class with a capital 'C'. Oftentimes a sequel never lives up to the original, or in this case the originals, but this time Ping has come up with a genuine winner. This driver is incredibly solid, it is high-launching, it promotes low spin, and that combination, my friends, results in BIG drives. Dual Tungsten weights perform the task of keeping weight low and deep in the head which helps get the golf ball airborne.

Visual deviations from the original Rapture driver include the lime green color on the soleplate and shaft. This isn't done just to color coat the original product, but it was done to distinguish this new driver from the old one. Virtually everything about this new driver is different than the original. The V2 sports a super lightweight 47 gram shaft in flexes ranging from Ladies to Extra Stiff. The only problem I see with the new shaft is the length. The finished length is 45.75". Combine the weight and the length and Rapture V2 is the lightest and longest driver available to consumers. However, a longer shaft may make this driver harder to control. Keep that in mind when considering this product. This 460cc driver does not appear to be massively huge, like so many of the other drivers on the market today. Ping has opted to keep the pear shape of the crown like the original Rapture. This is nice because it keeps your driver looking smaller than the other guys. Sneaky, sneaky!

Ping has enlarged the height of the face of Rapture V2 and has stretched the dimensions of the clubhead. The sweet spot is larger and the face is hotter, providing fantastic ball speed for players of all skill levels. Some players are reporting 5-8 more yards off the tee with this club, compared to the G10, and have found that with the lower spin they're getting a great deal more roll once the ball hits the ground. Now that's nice!

It appears that Ping has taken the hot face of the G10 driver coupled it with the solid sound and feel of the original Rapture and morphed it into this new amazing V2 driver. This morphing attaches to a price however. The MSRP is set at $500. Ouch! But if this driver fulfills the hype it has been getting, it sounds like it may be well worth it.

So if you're in love with the Ping G10, or the original Rapture, you'll have to audition the new Ping Rapture V2!

CORRECTING A SLICE-Golf Tips

Sad to say the vast majority of golfers are looking for a golf slice cure. If you are reading this you probably found it because you were searching the internet for a way to cure your slice. Well, I'm not going to give you a golf swing tip, or have you focus on drills, or even on your fundamentals. I could relate tips involving your alignment, your backswing, your downswing, your stance, or everything else related to golf swing technique. But let's be honest, the internet is full of lessons and instructions that can help you with the basic golf swing to help you fix your golf slice or even a hook, so I'm not going to waste my time talking about those things here.

How to fix an extreme slice doesn't necessarily mean you have to fix your over the top, outside-in golf swing. Nor do you have to take up new exercises or concentrate on your fitness. You don't even have to practice more! Ok, you always need to practice, but you don't have to focus all of your range time on combating your left to right swing flaw. To cure a golf slice can be as easy as having the correct equipment in your golf bag. It can be as simple as getting or buying the correct driver.

If you are a beginner in golf and you have developed a basic golf swing, then this tip is just for you. Before you go and buy golf clubs, particularly a driver, read the following tips. If you have played the game for a while and you have been an analyzer of your golf swing but you still slice your ball, then these tips will work for you as well.

I play the game of golf better because I have custom golf irons and these irons have been fitted to me and my swing. They match my height, my tempo, my swing speed, and my grips are fitted to my hands. I even play a golf ball that is matched for my swing speed, launch angle, and spin rate. Why did I choose to do this? Because these things help me to approach golf a little easier. They compensate for my swing characteristics, allowing me to play better golf. The same is true in regards to my putter. The same can be true for your DRIVER!

The point I'm trying to make is: a golf slice may be because of your swing characteristic, but all you need to do is put into your hands a club that can reduce, or even fix your slice, without making drastic changes to your current golf swing. The secret to a straighter driver swing may be in the driver itself. I'm going to give you 4 golf tips involving the driver that can help in curing your golf slice.

Anti-slice tip#1
When considering a driver look for a driver that has more loft. Drivers come in all kinds of lofts, they come in very low degrees to higher degrees. Avoid a driver with low loft. Picking a higher loft can reduce sidespin and can counteract your golf slice. And if you have a slow swingspeed, it can actually help you gain more distance off the tee. Now that's a big plus!

Golf slice tip#2
Pick a driver that has a closed clubface. Oftentimes, a slicer of the golf ball, has an open clubface at impact. This will cause the driver to put sidespin on the ball. Sidespin is bad. So look for a club that has a face that is closed 1 or 2 degrees, so when the driver is coming through the impact zone, it will end up being square to the target line rather than open.

Slice cure tip#3
Look for a driver that has an offset hosel. This delays the clubhead slightly on the downswing, again helping you to square the club up at impact.

Slice fix tip#4
Consider a shorter shaft. You don't have to shorten it by much because you don't want to change the swing weight of the driver. However, shortening the shaft will give you better control of your club helping you to not slice the golf ball. 1/2" to 1" shorter will do the trick. If you don't want to cut your shaft down, you can always choke down on your grip. If you do this, you may want to beef up your grip slightly with a few extra layers of grip tape.

These 4 golf tips can help you in your quest to defeat the dreaded golf slice. You may want to demo a few drivers before buying a club. Some who have a weak slice will not have to go to the extremes that we mentioned already. You may only need to go up one degree in loft, 1 degree closed, and have a half inch shorter shaft. Whereas someone else may need to have a lot more loft, more degrees closed, and up to an inch shorter. Some may find that slice tips 1, 2, and 4 cures them, whereas some may have to use all four. Experiment with different manufactures as well. Callaway and Cobra have a lot of options when it comes to their drivers. A lot of companies are now offering adjustable shafts and weights that can also be added into the mix of our anti-slice tips. Hopefully this information will be of benefit to you and your golf game. Erik Compton-Latest Golf News

''Gaahh!'' Erik Compton cried out as he viewed his approach shot on Sunday's concluding hole sail left of its intended target area and splash into a greenside pond. It was a deflating finish to the Miami native's 1st PGA Tour event since getting a 2nd heart organ transplant a little over 5 months ago. ''I was a choking dog," stated Erik. ''I played well enough this week to have a really good tournament.''
Compton, 28, was utilizing the Disney stop as a warm-up of sorts for next week's 2nd stage of the PGA Tour qualifying marathon. However, Erik has been scrambling with a set of irons not quite fitted to his stance and swing. And because of this, his swing caught up to him on the 72nd hole, placing a damper on a 6 birdie day that would have given him a solid finish. This struggle has been ongoing since giving away all of his golf equipment after last year's heart attack. He had his current set adjusted halfway through the 1st stage of Q-school 2 weeks ago, when he shot a final-day 68 to tie for the final spot available. He then had them readjusted for this weeks tournament but all his iron shots began producing errant shots to the left.
''He's kind of lost confidence in his irons,'' golf caddie Noah Stevens stated. Compton added: "One of these days I'll be able to play to my potential.''
2 even-par weekend rounds left Compton at 6-under 282, which fetched a $10,074 payday after entering the PGA Tour finale on a sponsor invitation. If Erik had parred the concluding hole, he would have tied for 47th and put an extra $3,300 into his bank account.
This really shows the importance of having the right equipment for you and for getting the proper golf club fitting because it can seriously affect your score and your frame of mind. In time, Erik will be able to hit more consistently.
Davis Love III ended up winning Sunday's trophy, firing off an 8-under 64 for a one-shot victory over Tommy Gainey.
This victory was Love's 20th career victory and it has earned him a lifetime PGA Tour exemption. He has now joined Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh as the only active players with such a designation.

This has been a busy stretch for me between rehabbing my knee, helping out with my foundation, keeping up with my three golf course design projects and fulfilling sponsor obligations. There hasn't been a lot of down time, although Elin and I took Sam to a Halloween party, where she dressed up as Tigger.

The knee is progressing. I'm working hard every day and there have been no setbacks. I've actually started to do a little chipping and putting, but no full swings. That's not going to happen until early next year.

We held our fourth annual Block Party and raised about $700,000 for our Learning Center. I want to thank Fred Couples and Chris Riley for helping me with the morning clinic at Pelican Hill. Freddie also helped out with our live auction and is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. I also want to thank world-renowned chef Mario Batali for preparing a three-course gourmet meal - yes, I ate two steaks - and special thanks to Seal for putting on a great concert. Just seeing him perform again was absolutely incredible. He's a nice guy, too.

Mario is so fired up about his cooking. I didn't learn much, but told him I would drop by some of his restaurants instead. I boil water really well and can make eggs in the morning.

I'd also like to thank one of the most important guests of the night - Eric Leos, a TWLC student who spoke about how much the Learning Center has helped him. His story is pretty amazing and hearing how the Learning Center completely changed his life really hit home. I'd like to extend by heartfelt thanks to the Orange County community for their continued support of the TWLC and students like Eric. It's important work, and we're making a real difference.

I also announced my third golf course design project, Punta Brava in Ensenada, Mexico - about 65 miles south of San Diego. Like my other design projects, Punta Brava fits all the criteria I'm looking for when deciding to design a course. The site is spectacular. I knew during my first visit it would be an amazing project. I also found a great partner in The Flagship Group, and I've really enjoyed working with them.

Now it's up to me to create a fantastic design and take full advantage of this unique site. I like working with the land to design a course that is a good fit. So walking the site and thinking through the strategy and shaping of each hole are really important elements of my design process. Punta Brava is my first oceanfront design, and there are 17 tees and greens on the water. It's awesome.

One of the things I love most about golf is thinking my way around a course, and it's a lot of fun incorporating this into my course designs. Each project is unique - the desert oasis, a mountain meadow course and now an oceanfront course - but all of them have been designed to be fun for all skill levels and reward smart thinking.

I did sneak in a Dodgers playoff game while I was in Southern California and had a great time. I've been a life-long fan and was disappointed they didn't win it all.

While I was down there, I did a Buick outing at Torrey Pines, and it was the first time I returned since I won the U.S. Open last June. While it was great to be back, it was a little harder to reminisce than I thought. I was shocked to see what the course looked like without grandstands. I hadn't seen it like that since junior golf.

I also did outings for Nike and Gillette. During the two Nike days, John Cook and Anthony Kim helped me conduct a couple golf clinics. Both are outstanding players and interacted really well with the guests. Also with Gillette, Derek Jeter and I filmed a commercial together. Derek and I are also participating in the Gillette EA SPORTS Champions of Gaming Tournament which is going to be the biggest global multi-sport gaming competition. Gamers from around the world will compete against each other for the chance to play against me and other Gillette Champions. I'll probably get killed by these experts, but we'll have fun. Entries have begun, and it wraps up in February. During the filming of the TV commercial, we played a new EA boxing game "Facebreakers," I beat him the first time; he got me the second. The crew had plenty of video and pictures, but we weren't leaving. You can't have a tie! He won the last game and gave me a hard time, but that's okay. I would have done the same.

I'm looking forward to hosting the Chevron World Challenge presented by Bank of America. It's Dec. 17-21 at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif. We're excited about our new partnerships and celebrating our 10th year. We have a young, competitive field, so it should be a great week.

One last thing: Congratulations to my friend John Cook for winning the AT&T Championship on the Champions Tour. We play a lot of golf together, and I think the only reason he won was because he wore a red shirt on Sunday.

Rip It Out Of The Rough

Golf course superintendents are going to great lengths to protect par, including narrowing landing areas and growing rough thick enough so you can't see your shoes. Hitting even a short wedge shot from this thick stuff requires strength and know-how.

Assuming you have adequate strength, the keys to advancing the ball from heavy rough are having a decent lie and keeping the clubface from turning over at impact. To accomplish this, I grip the club a little firmer than normal. It's not a death grip, just tight enough to keep the hosel from getting twisted in the long grass surrounding the ball.

I set up in a slightly open stance with the clubface also open a bit. Then I make a little steeper backswing so I can hit down on the shot, catching the ball first. I try to really fire my right side into the ball, powering it out with the big muscles in my legs and back, while keeping my lower body stable.

Beware: Even with proper execution, it's tough to judge how far the ball will go. Pick your target and club accordingly."

Golf Tip-Etiquette On The Golf Course

I have come across a book that is must for all golfers who love the game of golf but would like to know how to deal with groups that are slow ahead of you, for example. This is one golf tip that I think you will enjoy. This book came about by accident. One particular group was behind another that was playing very slow. One of the playing partners approached the slow group and said, "We're causing you a problem. Would it help you if we played through?" This approach worked and the group was allowed to play through with no problems. So that's how this book came about. It is chucked full of golf ideas about unwritten rules on the course and how to deal with them in a peaceful way so that everyone involved can just enjoy the game.

It is entitled, Playing Through: A Guide to the Unwritten Rules of Golf.

I have ordered one for myself and I look forward to passing on some hints to you. Etiquette on the golf course is a must and this book can help a lot of people to understand it more fully. Add this book to your library and maybe give it as a gift to a friend, especially if needs to be educated about golf etiquette. Now that's a good golf tip! (Hint, hint).

Golf News-John Daly Update

The double major championship winner, John Daly, acknowledges he was intoxicated when North Carolina police locked him up, but wasn't out of control. In fact, he's recently stated that he was only asleep with his eyes open.

Daly is now trying to clear is name in reference to what people have been saying about him and his actions at a Hooters restaurant. He wants it made known that he was not kicked out of the restaurant, where he was visiting with friends. But rather he left and went back to his bus to sleep. Then why was 911 called? It was because his bus driver thought he was dead. Why? Because his eyes were open. Daly states, 'Anybody who knows me...when I'm tired, I sleep with my eyes open. They know it takes a while to wake me.'

Daly added, "Nothing is going right in my life right now. I'm going through a hell of a divorce. I haven't seen my son. It was an unfortunate incident, but it's a joke what people are saying. I take full responsibility for what happened, but it wasn't that big of a deal."

However, the Winston-Salem police said Daly seemed "extremely intoxicated and unco-operative" when he was brought to the Forsyth County jail for 24 hours to sober up.

Daly is still confused about why he was put into orange overalls, or why his photo was released to the public. "The picture looks like I'm drunk," he said. Daly added, "I wasn't drunk when they took the picture. The picture people are seeing is me half asleep."

Here at Golf Tips-I reported about Daly and what happened at the Hooters restaurant and I'm a big fan of John Daly, and I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt, and so I wanted to post this to sort of give his side of the account.

Golf Fitting Tips For Taller Men

Tips on how to fit a tall person for golf clubs

What is the proper shaft length for taller men?

If you are a tall person then it is good to know the answer to that question because having the correct shaft length for your height is extremely important to your game. I liken proper club fitting to proper shoe fitting. To be comfortable and to take care of your feet properly you need to be fitted with a shoe that has proper length and width. The same is true with a golf club, you need to be fitted for the proper length and flex.

Golf fitting for taller men is not hard at all, because the fitting is the same for everyone, generally speaking.

To figure out your proper shaft length (plus your shaft flex), you can use the Custom Fitting Wizard by Pinemeadow Golf. Before you do that, you will need to know 7 things to get fitted.

Your gender (In this case, we are talking about males, but the wizard is for females as well)
Your exact height in inches
Your floor-to-wrist measurement in inches (stand straight up with your arms hanging naturally by your side, have someone use a yardstick or tape measure to measure the distance from your wrist down to the floor)
You will need to know whether your handicap is under 15, or over 15
You will need to know your age (which I'm sure you do, lol)
You will need to know your swing speed with a driver
You will also need to know which club you use to hit a 150 yard shot

Once you input these parameters into the fitting wizard, it will determine your club length (and flex). You will be told whether you should have a standard length shaft, or whether you have to add inches to a standard length shaft, or whether you have to subtract inches from a standard length shaft. The length is determined by your height and your wrist-to-floor measurement.

The standard length for a steel driver with a steel head is 43".

The standard length for a graphite driver with a steel head is 44".

If the head of your driver is Titanium then it is recommended you have a graphite shaft, and the standard length for this driver is 45".

Note: The reason graphite shafts are 1 to 2 inches longer than a standard steel shaft is because of the weight. Graphite shafts are lighter shafts and in order for the overall club to have the same swing weight as compared to a steel shaft, it has to be longer to balance it out. The Custom Fitting Wizard will tell you how much you need to add to a standard length shaft, or how much you need to subtract. If you are tall but have long arms, you may need only a standard length shaft, for example.

Let's do an example.

Suppose you are 6'6" tall and your floor-to-wrist measurement is 39.5". Your handicap is over 15, you are 22 years old, your swing speed is pretty normal (between 75-85mph), and you hit a 6 iron from 150 yards. The fitting wizard suggests that you be fitted with a men's stiff shaft, plus 1 inch. The plus 1 inch means you would add 1 inches to whatever style shaft you choose to play. If it's steel you choose, for example, then you would be fitted with a driver that is 44 inches overall length (43"+1"=44").

As you can see golf fitting for taller men is easy to do and it is highly recommend that you do get fitted, because I know you want to play your best and having a fitted set of clubs will allow you to do that. Replacing your golf grips when they get worn out is highly recommended. But sometimes just a good cleaning can make a huge difference. So here is a quick tip on how to clean and rejuvenate rubber golf club grips.

Wash your golf grips with dish soap and a brush. Use a towel to dry your grips. I've heard you can get some of the original tackiness back by using 150 grit sandpaper lightly over the entire grip. If you are using synthetic or extremely soft rubber grips I would not recommend this procedure since it could really ruin the grip.

Keeping your grips clean is very important. It is amazing how much dirt and grime build up on them even after a short period of time. I make it a practice to clean and rejuvenate my grips approximately every 10 rounds of golf. That's just me, you could clean yours more or less. My hands are very oily and it doesn't take long for my grips to feel slick.

I was doing some scouting around for a topic that people were searching for in regards to golf and found out that some people have been searching for "cheap used golf balls". With the economy in a rut lately I suppose people are looking for ways to save a buck even when it comes to playing the game of golf. So it's not surprising to see people searching for used golf balls that are cheap in price. Many of us that play the game, or at least try, probably will not notice the difference between new and used golf balls anyways. Especially is this true if you are new to the game. You won't feel so bad when you plunk one into a water hazard or if you slice it into the woods. Seriously, I believe expensive golf balls can mess with your mind, I know it does with me. I worry that I'm going to lose my ball that I paid $5 for. But when I play with cheap used golf balls, I kind of put that thinking aside and I concentrate more on my game. So, another words, used golf balls bought for cheap, can probably improve your golf game slightly. Smart huh.
